Hybrid and Accelerated BSN Nursing Programs in Massachussetts

Advantages of a BSN Degree

With the healthcare industry as well as patient needs becoming more complex, more and more hospitals are instituting new education standards for their nursing staff and only hiring individuals with a bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher.

Magnet-designated hospitals are a great example. Recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for excellence in patient care delivery, these hospitals require nurses of leadership status hold at least a BSN degree. Plus, hospitals currently applying for Magnet status must be working toward employing an 80% baccalaureate-prepared RN workforce by 2020.

If it were up to some New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island lawmakers who have proposed “BS in 10” legislation, even more hospital would hire only those nurses with a BSN. A law such as this would require nurses without a bachelor’s degree to get one within their first 10 years of employment.

By pursuing an Accelerated BSN degree right from the start, you can begin your career without interruption. An associate degree nursing program only teaches you the nursing basics, whereas a BSN program helps you develop the decision-making and critical-thinking skills required to provide quality patient care.

5 Reasons Having a BSN is Better than an ADN

  1. You have higher earning potential and better career advancement opportunities.

  3. You have better job security as state nursing requirements become more demanding.
